Cleveland Institute of Technology Partners with University of Delhi to Deliver Certificate Programs to Indian Students

New Delhi, India - July 30, 2008 - The Cleveland Institute of Technology (CIT), an Ohio Board of Regents (OBOR) certified institution of higher education headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, has extended its partnership with Janki Devi Memorial College of University of Delhi, India’s largest state university, to deliver Certificate Programs in advanced computer programming and multimedia to Indian students.

India’s growing demand for qualified workers has created a push for advanced IT training in higher education. While approximately 40 percent of India's 1.1 billion citizens are under the age of 18, only 7 percent ever enter a university. In 2006, CIT established a partnership with the University of New Delhi to help fill this gap by provisioning its undergraduate and graduate computer training programs to Indian students.

CIT’s Training Center, located within University of Delhi’s campus, provides instructor-led training and assessment. CIT India instructors are comprised of full-time, technical subject matter experts. Students can also access CIT course materials online as a supplement to their class work. Since 2006, approximately 75 students have successfully graduated and received certificates from CIT India. Graduates go on to pursue advanced degrees and to obtain jobs. CIT’s committed faculty and staff not only provide training, but also assist students with post-graduate job placement.

CIT and University of Delhi’s extended partnership now includes additional courses especially designed for the Indian students including:

  • Computer Literacy
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Graphics and Web Design
  • Multimedia and Animation Design
  • Visual Basic and C++

"CIT Certificate Programs are a great addition to our curriculum,” said Dr. Indu Anand, Principal, JDMC, University of Delhi. “We look forward to continued success in the partnership between CIT and University of Delhi, and the benefit it brings to our students.”

Currently, more than 160,000 Indian students attend college overseas, spending roughly $4 billion dollars annually. CIT and University of Delhi’s partnership also enables Indian students to access study abroad opportunities for further education. Indian students who graduate successfully and receive a certificate from CIT India, have the opportunity to transfer credits and attain degrees at CIT’s affiliated college and university partners in the United States.

“CIT is pleased to extend our partnership with the University of Delhi to provide additional Certificate Programs to Indian students,” said Sam Kapoor, Director of the Cleveland Institute of Technology, India. “CIT India graduates have gone on to pursue advanced degrees in India and the United States or have been successfully recruited by leading technology companies in India such as IBM India, CEAI, Wipro, Infosys, TCS, and Satyam.”
